A Gift of Love: Why God Gave Us the Testimonies
In His deep and tender love, God saw that His last-day people would face trials, deceptions, and distractions like never before. So, in mercy, He gave us a precious gift—the Testimonies through Ellen G. White. They are not a burden, but a blessing; not a replacement for the Bible, but a light shining more clearly on its sacred truths.
“God has been pleased to give you line upon line and precept upon precept, but few have heeded the warnings given” (Testimonies, Vol. 5, p. 234). These messages are Jesus reaching out to His church—not to condemn, but to guide, protect, and prepare us for the home He longs to share with us.
God has always spoken through prophets to preserve His people. “Surely the Lord God will do nothing, but He revealeth His secret unto His servants the prophets” (Amos 3:7). Through the Testimonies, He has revealed the secrets of spiritual health, victorious living, church order, and end-time preparation.
Some may wonder if the Testimonies are truly necessary. But Sister White wrote, “If you had made God’s Word your study... you would not have needed the Testimonies” (Testimonies, Vol. 5, p. 665).
They are heaven’s call to draw closer, to reflect, to grow. And Scripture reminds us, “Despise not prophesyings. Prove all things; hold fast that which is good” (1 Thessalonians 5:20–21).
Dear friend, God knew your struggles, questions, and silent prayers—and He sent you loving counsel through these writings. “The testimonies are of the Spirit of God, or of the devil. There is no halfway work” (Testimonies, Vol. 4, p. 230).
Let us receive them with humility, and read with a willing heart. “He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches” (Revelation 2:7).
