LESSON 10: Sabbath School Lesson Summary

SABBATH SCHOOL LESSON SUMMARY

31st MAY TO 6th JUNE 2025

TITLE: UPON WHOM THE ENDS HAVE COME

The aim of this week’s lesson is to study past events and to get hints for their application in future events like the second coming, investigative judgement, final crisis, e.t.c.

Scripture reading: “Now all these things happened to them as examples, and they were written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages have come.  Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall.1 Corinthians 10:11-12

INTRODUCTION: Sabbath afternoon.

We learn that there are a number of past events recorded in the bible that will be repeated in the end or which will have a dual fulfillment in the last days. They happened and were written in God’s word for our earnest warning upon whom the ends of the world have come.  We learn that the past biblical events hold keys that enable us to understand future events.

SUNDAY: Wrath of the Lamb

We see in Revelation 6:12-17 that the people respond to the last day events by hiding themselves in the dens and rocks of mountains for fear of the wrath of the Lamb, an implication that they know what is right and know their evil; they willingly forget and refuse to repent even after being warned. We contrast the story of Noah as narrated by Jesus in Matthew 24:36-44 with the nature of the second coming of Jesus. We see that in both, the event comes as a surprise to many, many are warned, but few will regard the warning, many will be eating, drinking, and enjoying the pleasures of the world, and they will find themselves unaware.

The lesson warns us to stay on guard and watch lest we perish like those before the flood.

MONDAY: Noah’s evangelism

We draw parallels between Matthew 24:37-39 and Genesis 6:1-8 and realize that in both cases, there is marrying and giving in marriage, merry-making, apostasy, and great wickedness concerning the world before the flood. As stated in Hebrews 11:7, we see that despite Noah preaching for decades of years, only his family was saved. Noah’s evangelism gives us a glimpse of what evangelism will be like in the very last days.  All will hear, but very few will heed the warnings. We are encouraged by Noah’s example not to be discouraged by the results of our evangelistic efforts.

TUESDAY: The story of Sodom and Gomorrah

In this lesson we draw lessons from the causes of the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah as recorded in 2 Peter 2:4-11, Jude 5-8, and Ezekiel 16:46-50, and generally we see it was due to presumption, speaking evil of dignities, despising governments, fornication, pride, idleness, abomination, and despising the poor and needy. We compare this to the situation of the last days as recorded in Romans 1:18-32 and saw parallels or even worse, like homosexuality, fornication, murder, covetousness, deceit, and so on.

In Romans 1:31-32, we get a warning that those who do the above, just like the people of Sodom, deserve death. Therefore, we should not follow the trend of the last days but walk uprightly.

WEDNESDAY: The Judge of the All Earth

From Genesis 18:17-32, we draw lessons about the nature of God and how ultimately He plans to deal with evil on our planet, like God is transparent in His judgment, God carries out investigative judgment before execution, and the Lord is patient and long-suffering towards men so that they should get saved. We see that similarly, before the hellfires will be kindled, God will provide room for the righteous for 1000 years to open the books of heaven and ask questions to show justice in His dealing with sin and sinners, and then execution will come next.

God is open to scrutiny by His created beings

THURSDAY: Pre-advent judgement

We study about the nature of God’s pre-advent judgement being investigative concerning Daniel 7:9, 10, 13, 14, 22, 26, and 27, where we see that the Ancient of Days is seated on His throne, the books are opened, the Son of Man comes with clouds and is brought near the Ancient of Days, the Son of Man is given an everlasting dominion, and then in the end, the judgement is given to the saints, and they possess the kingdom. The judgment sits in the very last days; the dark power of the little horn is completely taken away, consumed, and destroyed; and lastly, the greatness of the kingdom under heaven is given to the saints of the Most High.

We learn that the primary focus of judgment is to bring about justice, and the plan of salvation aims at putting an end to sin and giving a new life to the redeemed. Our hope in the day of judgment is in Christ’s atonement on our behalf, and it will be in our favor.
